THE IMPORTANCE OF FULFILLMENT (THE DARK HORSE PROJECT)

Ok, I’m officially obsessed with the Dark Horse Project (and its book).

Harvard researchers studied people who achieved remarkable success without following the standard formula and linear paths. These were the “dark horses” , the ones no one bet on, who ended up surprising everyone… and thriving.

Some Dark Horses I’ve had the pleasure to meet and hear their stories:

🐎 A Marketing manager who leaves a stable job to start a pottery business — and finds deep success and joy.

🐎The Corporate Lawyer who becomes a prestigious Music Producer.

🐎The Strategy Consultant who opens a successful tiny, local food truck

The research focuses on finding what all these Dark horses have in common?

❗ The pursuit of Fulfilment (Not by accident, but by choice).

We often believe the pursuit of excellence will eventually lead to fulfilment. But the research shows the opposite: it’s the pursuit of fulfilment that leads to excellence.

Dark horses don’t follow a straight path.

They don’t start with wealth or mastery in mind and a 5 year plan.

They start with fit — choosing paths that align with who they are, their motives, not who others expect them to be.

They remind us that:

👉 Success is not one-size-fits-all.

👉 You don’t have to choose between doing what you love and doing what’s practical.

👉 You don’t have to know exactly your destination, but you need a direction while being open for opportunities along the way.

This isn’t about dismissing traditional career paths, they’re valid and valuable too.

But dark horses expand our definition of success and invite us to explore the less obvious, often more fulfilling, trails.

👀 Do you know any dark horses, or do you think you could be one?
