If the words Personal Branding make you cringe and break out in a cold sweat, same. I get it.
For years, I actively resisted the idea of defining my personal brand. During my MBA, I felt it was a box, a mould often built around someone else’s expectations. No way was I fitting into that.
And yet, along my career, I noticed something. Once I stopped resisting and reframed personal branding in a way that felt natural, it became easy, fun and drove my confidence.
Now, as an entrepreneur, it is one of the most important tools I have. Why? Because personal branding is not about a list of attributes or what you do. It is about showing who you are, your values, your strengths, your beliefs, your style, and letting people see it clearly.
It is also an incredible filter. It helps attract your people, whether clients, partners, or collaborators who fit you. And an unexpected bonus is that it makes me much more comfortable when people disagree with me. I know who I am. I know what I stand for.
In my career coaching practice, I see the same thing with clients. Whether they are landing a new role, transitioning careers, or accelerating their growth, personal branding is part of the journey. We work to define it, polish it, and show it. Not superficially, but authentically.
We work on the key personal brand elements:
– Stories: the experiences that shaped you
– Values: what guides your choices
– Strengths: what makes you unique
Everyone has a personal brand, whether we like it or not. The choice is whether you let it happen by default or you show it intentionally.
Good work alone, unfortunately, is not enough. If people do not know who you are, what you stand for, and what you bring to the table, opportunities can pass you by. Being excellent is the foundation, but a clear, authentic personal brand makes you memorable and visible.
So do not be afraid to differentiate yourself. Show your quirks, your bold ideas, your unique perspective. Treat people well. Be enthusiastic. Be joyful. That is what makes people remember you.
And, well, this 90s anime style is not exactly my personal brand, but my friend Jose Vela shared this with me today. I found it hilarious, and hopefully it will help you remember the message of this post 😆
