A Journey Through Change: Reflecting on the Last Few Years.

This picture was taken in 2008 when I sent it to the local newspaper after being selected for a prestigious program in Switzerland to advise on the London Olympic Games. The world was in the midst of the financial crisis, and I didn’t have a suit to wear, but I was full of dreams, optimism, and ready to conquer the world.

I was finishing college and immediately joined a great company. I felt a clear sense of direction and pride, making my career a significant part of my identity.

However, after six years, things took a wrong turn.

In my personal life, I had committed to a relationship where I was deeply unhappy.

Professionally, I’d started working for a new company but quickly realised I had made a big mistake. I found myself in a toxic environment, where disrespect, being ignored, and continuous criticism were the norms. I felt that neither I nor my work mattered and was left isolated.

It was a tough time. Without a safe space in both my professional and personal life, it was no surprise that I began to feel anxious, disconnected, and extremely insecure for the first time in my life.

I decided to chase an old dream – one I thought I would never realise – and moved to the UK to start my MBA. I left my beautiful country of Spain behind and started over. My venture into the unknown became the turning point in my story.

In the following five years, I had the chance to learn about many new topics and meet people from all over the world who broadened my perspective and helped me get to know myself much better. This journey has helped me grow enormously, both professionally and personally.

I have lived adventures that I never imagined I would experience! From moving to Amsterdam and living on a houseboat with my dog Popito, to riding the 1862 curves of the Mae Hong Son Loop on my motorbike in Thailand, to finally learning how to surf in Cape Town and start playing the ukulele, not to mention all the amazing friends from all corners of the world I’ve made along the way.

Today, I am lucky to be working in the tech industry, which I find fascinating. Looking back, I am so happy with the direction I took a few years ago, and I am excited about what the future holds.

If I need to pick one lesson from this journey, it is that if you have a dream to chase or a situation you want to change, as Richard Branson says, «Screw it, let’s do it!» Go for it
